On Wednesday, August 7, 2019 the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) is hosting the fourth annual PE Day. The virtual event takes the opportunity to bring recognition to society’s superstar creative problem solvers. From our high-tech gadgets to the factories that produce them, and the planes, trains, ships and trucks use to transport them, owes its existence to the innovative work of some very brilliant engineers.
One of the main reasons I became a Professional Engineer (no it wasn’t to meet more chicks) was because I always wanted to have my own private consulting practice and I knew the PE designation would help to garner trust and credibility with new clients who were unfamiliar with my services. Plus, it serves as a competitive differentiator and helps to give me a leg up when bidding on projects; against consultants who lack the PE credential.
PE Day coincides with the awarding of the first professional engineering license, which was issued to Charles Bellamy in Wyoming in August 1907. The licensure process protects the public health, safety, welfare, and your company.
So let’s get the party started on August 7, 2019 by using #LicensedPEday on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or LinkedIn to:
- Upload a photo or video of yourself,
- Share why you decided to become a PE
- Post photos or videos of your team of PEs
- Share your reasons for hiring PEs
- Give special recognition to your PEs in the workplace or on the job
- Educate your colleagues about the importance of the PE license
